Jordan Spieth is taking a break after being knocked out of the FedEx Cup Playoffs.
He’s planning to get surgery on his left wrist right away, following a season finish at 67th in the FedEx Cup standings. Spieth’s last tournament, the FedEx St Jude Championship, saw him end up T68th out of 70 players with a score of nine-over-par, missing out on this week’s BMW Championship.
The injury has been bothering him for over a year now and he expects to be out for about three months. He said, “I’ve got to have it operated on ASAP, and then I’ll go through the process of what I’m supposed to do from there.” He also mentioned that without any rush to return, he’ll take his time recovering.
Future Plans:
Spieth might request an exemption into Tiger Woods’ Hero World Challenge in December. If not, fans may not see him until January at the Sony Open in Hawaii since he’s not exempt for The Sentry in 2025.
He admitted that the surgery is “a little scary” but hopes it will help him play better next year. “I kept trying not to make excuses for myself because it didn’t hurt when I was swinging,” he shared. “But it doesn’t seem coincidental based on the amount of time, and really the results being the exact same every single week.”
Fans think it’s wise for Spieth to focus on healing properly rather than rushing back too soon.
This year has been tough for Spieth with only three top-10 finishes and seven missed cuts in 22 starts. His best result was 3rd place at The Sentry early in the season, with no top-10s since Valero Texas Open before The Masters.
