Jonathan Thomson, a golfer from Yorkshire, shared on Instagram that his leukemia has returned.
Known as “Jigger,” he announced plans to start treatment to finally overcome the illness.
Diagnosed with leukemia at age seven, he recovered by twelve and chased his golfing dreams.
At 6 feet 9 inches tall, Thomson became the tallest player in DP World Tour history in 2018 after successfully navigating all three stages of Qualifying School the previous year. That year marked his peak performance when he participated in an all-English four-man playoff at the Made in Denmark event, eventually won by Matt Wallace. Since then, he’s mostly played on the Challenge Tour and hasn’t found much success this season, though he did tie for 12th place at the Swiss Challenge in September.
Health Update:
Recently, Jonathan felt unwell for months and hoped it was just a stubborn virus. Unfortunately, tests confirmed his worst fears—leukemia had returned. Despite this setback, he remains determined to fight harder than ever before. Fans might feel inspired by his courage and resilience during these tough times.
He stated he’s receiving excellent care and is ready to battle once more: “I am now in the best care and will undergo treatment once again to try and beat this once and for all,” adding that it’s time to double down on his efforts.
Many fellow golfers have shown their support for him during this challenging period. Jack Singh Brar, Richard Mansell, and Ian Poulter are among those cheering him on with messages like “Be strong Jig.”
