Jon Rahm wants to play on both the PGA Tour and LIV Golf.
This week, Rahm is at the Open de Espana, his first DP World Tour event since joining LIV Golf last year. The 29-year-old got permission to play at the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid after appealing fines from the DP World Tour for playing in conflicting events.
Rahm plans to compete in two more European tournaments this year: Dunhill Links Championship and Andalucia Masters. This will help him keep his DP World Tour card and stay eligible for Team Europe in next year’s Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black .
Rahm’s Vision for Golf:
Negotiations between the PGA Tour, DP World Tour, and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (which funds LIV Golf) are ongoing. Rahm remains hopeful a deal will be reached soon. He expressed optimism about being able to “play freely” across different tours without issues.
He said he wants a system that lets players enjoy golf without restrictions. For example, he hopes to participate in both the Farmers Insurance Open and American Express in January while still playing some fall events on the DP World Tour.
Fans might think this could bring more excitement to golf if it happens!
“With all the rumors lately, it seems progress has been made,” Rahm shared. “I’m optimistic.”
Rahm has always wanted to return to competing on the PGA Tour someday. Before this year’s Masters, he mentioned his love for the PGA Tour and hoped for a future where he could play there again.
Last week, Rahm missed LIV Golf’s Team Championship due to illness and also skipped Wednesday’s Pro-Am in Spain because of his third child’s birth. Despite these events, he arrived just in time at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid as he aims for his fourth Spanish Open win against other LIV players like Tyrrell Hatton, Adrian Meronk, and Patrick Reed.
“I’m thrilled everything went well,” Rahm said about bringing home his newborn. “It would have been sad to miss that moment with my family. We were lucky everything worked out perfectly.”
