John Parry Wins Mauritius Open, Ends 14-Year DP World Tour Drought

John Parry pulled off an incredible comeback story Sunday, winning his first DP World Tour title in 14 years at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open with a spectacular final-round 64.

The 38-year-old Englishman started the day five shots behind but caught fire on the back nine, shooting an amazing 30 to finish at 14-under and win by two strokes.

It’s been quite a journey for Parry. His last win on tour came way back in 2010 at the Vivendi Cup when he was just 23. After that, things got really tough.

“I was close to giving up golf,” Parry admitted after his victory. “Five or six years ago, I was back on the EuroPro Tour, struggling to find my game.”

But he didn’t quit. Instead, he fought his way back through golf’s minor leagues, winning three times on the Challenge Tour in 2024 to earn his way back to the big stage.

The turning point on Sunday came at the 12th hole, where Parry chipped in for eagle.

“That really gave me momentum for the rest of the round,” he said. “After that, I just didn’t miss a shot coming in.”

He made four more birdies down the stretch while overnight leaders Eddie Pepperell and Dylan Naidoo couldn’t keep pace.

The win was worth about $260,000, but there was an even sweeter bonus. Parry topped the tour’s Opening Swing Rankings, earning an extra $200,000.

South Africans Naidoo and Christo Lamprecht tied for second at 12-under, with their countryman Jovan Rebula taking fourth place at 11-under.

The DP World Tour now takes a holiday break before returning with the prestigious Dubai Desert Classic in mid-January.

For Parry, ranked 151st in the world, it’s a life-changing victory that proves perseverance really does pay off. From nearly quitting the game to winning on tour again – that’s the kind of comeback story golf fans love to see.
