Parents often dream of their kids following in their footsteps, and Ian Poulter is no exception.
The Ryder Cup star’s son, Luke, is a promising college golfer at the University of Florida with hopes of going pro.
Luke has only played one season so far but shows potential with a 2-1 match-play record, his only loss to Nick Dunlap.
Ian Poulter dreams of his son joining Majesticks GC after more college years and some LIV Golf seasons. Last year, Luke finally beat his dad for the first time. “Hopefully, one day [Luke] can take over the reigns from me as a Majesticks GC player,” said Poulter. “I’d love nothing more than for Luke to wear the Majesticks shirt.”
But right now, Luke is dealing with a back injury and won’t be back until September. His dad says he’s been working too hard and needs to learn balance between effort and rest.
Fans might think it’s tough seeing young athletes struggle with injuries early on.
Poulter mentioned that Luke had a good year but needs to focus on recovery for four or five months. “His scans are OK – they’re improving – and hopefully this is a great learning exercise for him as a young athlete,” he added.
Future Plans:
Once healthy again, Luke will continue aiming for a successful pro career. Meanwhile, Ian knows he can’t play forever but plans to stay in LIV Golf for now. He revealed plans to create an academy within Majesticks GC to help new players transition smoothly into the team.
“We are looking to bring on some players at some point,” Poulter said about forming an academy. “Like any team, players come and go.”
With Henrik Stenson and Lee Westwood by his side, they have over 75 years of experience combined which adds value not just in playing but also in entertaining sponsors.
Poulter prepares next for LIV Golf Andalucia at Valderrama Golf Club from July 12-14 before heading to LIV Golf UK at JCB Golf & Country Club from July 26-28.
