Ian Poulter Ryder Cup Return

Ian Poulter isn’t closing the door on a potential Ryder Cup comeback, telling Al Arabiya “never say never” when asked about his future in golf’s biggest team event.

The LIV Golf star knows it’s not possible right now, but he’s keeping his options open.

“As it stands today that isn’t an option for me, but things change quite quickly like we’ve seen in the golf landscape,” Poulter said. “Let’s see how things play out, you never know.”

His comments come as the 2025 LIV Golf season kicked off in Riyadh with some major developments in the golf world. ITV just signed a new TV deal to show LIV Golf in the UK, while US President Donald Trump met with PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan about a possible Saudi PIF investment deal.

But Poulter’s got more on his mind than just playing golf. He’s planning to follow Bryson DeChambeau’s lead and make a splash on social media.

“In the not too distant future you might see a digital channel coming out,” he teased. It’s part of both tours’ push to attract younger fans, with LIV Golf already bringing on popular YouTuber Rick Shiels as an ambassador.

The Riyadh tournament is breaking new ground by playing under the lights – something that’s taking some adjustment.

“It’s been good for me, half man half mattress I like to lay in, so obviously teeing off at 6pm is very different,” Poulter joked.

The night golf setup has created some unique challenges for players.

“You’ll have the odd shadow which you have to get used to when you’re setting up over the ball,” he explained. “But I think it’s brilliant. For us to showcase live golf and do it in a slightly different way and make it a bit more fun, you’ll see that over the coverage.”

The lighting system has made picking lines off the tee more challenging, but Poulter sees it as an exciting innovation for the sport.
