Ian Poulter is aiming for a victory at the LIV Golf UK event.
He’s had a tough season with just one top 10 finish, but last year he did well on home turf, placing T11 in London and second in the Asian Tour’s International Series England. Now, Poulter hopes that playing at home with fans cheering him on will help him win again.
The 48-year-old golfer feels that winning this week would be very special, especially given his age. He wants to celebrate any success in the Majesticks pub set up on the course .
Poulter shared his thoughts: “It would mean an awful lot,” he said about winning. “I don’t think I’ve delivered the performance in the LIV events that I think I should have done. I’m not happy with my play over the last couple of seasons. I think I’m very close.”
Home Advantage and Team Spirit
He believes having the right mindset and attitude is key to performing well this week. If he wins, he plans to keep celebrating until early Monday morning with 14,000 fans!
Sam Horsfield is also playing at home as he’s a member of JCB Golf & Country Club and lives nearby. Lee Westwood is from around there too. This idea of having a ‘home team’ is something LIV Golf wants to grow.
Phil Mickelson has mentioned wanting each team to have a home course for hosting events and other activities like coaching clinics. Poulter, Westwood, Henrik Stenson, and Horsfield are all considering this for their future plans.
Fans might find it exciting to see how these ideas develop over time.
Westwood commented: “It’s at a very early stage, but it’s certainly something that we should look at in the future.” He thinks having dedicated courses makes sense for hosting various tournaments throughout the year.
Poulter added that finances are crucial: “If we deliver on the golf course and win five tournaments next year, we can push this forward quicker.”
They’re thinking big about what their team could achieve over three, five or even ten years. A permanent venue would be amazing if they can secure funding and play really well.
What do you think? Would you like to see teams have their own courses?
