Hero Saves Brian Harman’s Son from Drowning, Now in Coma

Brian Harman, a former Open champion, is asking for prayers for a hero in a coma after saving his son from drowning.

On October 13th, while Harman was playing at the Macau Open, his wife and family friend Cathy Dowdy went to Ponte Vedra Beach with their kids and some friends. During this beach trip, Harman’s son got caught in a dangerous rip current while boogie boarding. Dowdy bravely tried to rescue him but ended up getting hurt herself.

Luckily, Crane Cantrell was there too and managed to pull both of them out of the water safely. Sadly, since that day, Dowdy has been in a coma and is now being treated at a hospital in Savannah, Georgia .

Community Support and Gratitude:

To help her family during this tough time, people set up a GoFundMe page that has raised nearly four times its original goal of $20,000. Fans might think it’s amazing how much support they’ve received so far. Harman spoke about this situation before the RSM Classic tournament at Sea Island Resort.

“Obviously our world down here was kind of turned on its head,” he said during his press conference. He wanted everyone to know about the bravery shown by Cathy and Crane that day. “They disregarded theirselves… saved my son – and how do you thank people like that?” he wondered aloud.

Harman also shared how grateful he is for all the love and support from Glynn County and St. Simons community members who have been there for them through everything that’s happened.

He expressed heartfelt appreciation: “The outpouring of support we’ve gotten…is another one of the most touching things I’ve ever experienced.” He emphasized sticking together as family with Mike, Christina, Nicole—and hopes everyone continues sending prayers Cathy’s way.

What do you think about such acts of bravery?
