Majesticks GC? Yeah, they’re in a bit of a rough patch in the LIV Golf League right now. But hey, don’t let that fool you. One of their co-captains, Henrik Stenson, is out there making waves in a totally different arena. Fresh from a challenging round at LIV Golf Adelaide, where he scored a one-over par, Stenson decided to switch things up. That very evening, he showed up at an AFL match between Port Adelaide and St Kilda. And guess what? He totally stole the show.
“Wow. @henrikstenson just won a @PAFC Member a brand new car.” Talk about fan engagement skyrocketing! This was all thanks to some out-of-the-box thinking. And the connection to @livgolf_league? Simply amazing. I mean, who doesn’t love this kind of stuff? The tweet from April 26, 2024, says it all.
During half-time, with the Power leading 82-72, Stenson wowed everyone. He managed to win a lucky fan a brand-new car. The details are a bit fuzzy, but it involved Stenson hitting a golf ball towards a target. And not just any target. Port Adelaide’s mascot was waiting, flag in hand, at the centre spot. When the ball hit its mark, the stadium erupted. Stenson, caught up in the moment, tossed his club and ran to hug the mascot. Classic Stenson.
The lucky winner? Darren Marschall from Salisbury Downs. His name flashed across the big screens, making the moment even more special. And Stenson, ever the joker, asked the announcer if he thought the winner would buy him a drink. The crowd loved it.
But that’s not all Stenson did that day. Back at The Grange Golf Club, he nearly aced the 12th hole at the ‘Watering Hole’. Playing with Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter, and Sam Horsfield, he ended up with a tap-in birdie. It was one of only three birdies he made that day. Talk about a rollercoaster of a day, right?
For those who live and breathe golf, subscribing to the Golf Monthly newsletter is a no-brainer. It’s your ticket to the latest tour news, gear reviews, and expert insights. Meanwhile, at LIV Golf Adelaide, Cameron Smith was leading a parade. Literally. Fans were practically tripping over themselves to follow the 2022 Open Champion, Jon Rahm, and Sergio Garcia down the 18th fairway.
And let’s not forget about Sergio Garcia. The former Masters champ is set to play alongside Horsfield and Anthony Kim. Remember their epic face-off 14 years ago at Valhalla? Kim clinched a 5&4 victory over Garcia in a match that’s still talked about. Round two on Saturday is shaping up to be quite the spectacle.
