Greg Norman, CEO of LIV Golf, has been chatting with Yutaka Morohoshi about possibly bringing another LIV event to Asia.
Just after announcing a new tournament in South Korea for 2025, Norman teased on Instagram about a potential event in Japan, showing him at a table with "LIV Golf Japan" displayed on a screen.
The idea is to have this competition by 2026, either as a regular season match or maybe even the host for the Team Championship finale.
If this plan works out, LIV would join the PGA Tour and DP World Tour in having an event in Japan. The PGA already has the Zozo Championship there, while the European Tour had its ISPS Handa Championship but seems to be skipping Japan next year.
Currently, only one Japanese player is part of LIV—Jinichiro Kozuma from IronHeads GC. They once tried to bring Hideki Matsuyama over from the PGA Tour too. Back when teams started in 2022, Torque GC was all-Japanese but later switched players.
Fans might wonder if more Japanese stars will join if this new tournament becomes real. Could we see Matsuyama make a move?
Norman also talked about getting ready for LIV Golf South Korea at Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea next year from May 2-4. This club hosted big events before like the Presidents Cup and Genesis Championship.
Upcoming Plans and Events
LIV’s early years focused mostly on U.S.-based events but now they’re branching out globally with their 2025 schedule hinting at change—a mix of tournaments across Asia and Oceania.
For instance, here’s what’s lined up so far:
- February 6-8: Riyadh
- February 14-16: Adelaide
- March 7-9: Hong Kong
- March 14-16: Singapore
- May 2-4: Korea
And that’s just part of it! Only three events are set in America among ten confirmed ones.
Discussing these changes, Norman said: “LIV Golf is growing across the globe… Bringing it to South Korea marks another milestone as we expand throughout Asia.” He also mentioned an inaugural event fitting perfectly into Indianapolis’ sports-loving community.
What do you think? Would you like to see more golf tournaments happening worldwide?
