A year after his final PGA Tour victory, Grayson Murray’s legacy lives on through a new foundation aimed at tackling mental health and addiction challenges.

The Grayson Murray Foundation, launched Monday in Raleigh, North Carolina, transforms the late golfer’s personal struggles into hope for others who need help.

Murray, who died tragically last May at just 30 years old, had been open about his battles with anxiety, depression, and addiction throughout his career. His final triumph came at the 2023 Sony Open in Hawaii, where he won a thrilling playoff against Keegan Bradley and Byeong Hun An.

“Grayson touched the hearts of so many by sharing his own mental health challenges,” his parents Eric and Terry Murray said. “He used his platform as a PGA Tour champion to reach those in need – and we’re determined to continue his mission.”

The foundation aims to make mental health and addiction care more accessible, support innovative research, and create a culture of understanding.

It’s a family affair. Murray’s mother Terry serves as treasurer, his sister Erica Robinson as secretary, while longtime manager Kevin Canning and family friend Jeff Maness take on vice president and president roles respectively.

What many didn’t know was that starting such a foundation had been Murray’s own dream.

“Grayson wanted to help people who needed support but couldn’t afford it,” Maness revealed. “He saw firsthand how tough it could be to get help, both financially and just finding the right resources.”

The seven-time professional winner was known for more than just his skills on the golf course. After his death, stories poured in about his generosity and constant desire to lift others up.

“No matter what he was going through, Grayson always wanted to help others,” his parents shared. “Let’s all try to show the same kindness he did.”

The foundation, based in Murray’s hometown of Raleigh, carries forward his vision of making mental health support available to those who need it most.

For those who knew him best, it’s exactly what Murray would have wanted – turning his personal struggles into a lasting source of hope for others.
