Graeme McDowell Replacement Confirmed After Nasal Spray Ban

Graeme McDowell is out of the LIV Golf Greenbrier event due to a doping violation.

He shared on social media that he was randomly tested and found positive for R-methamphetamine after using an over-the-counter decongestant stick containing the banned substance. As a result, he’s fined $125,000 and must return the $128,000 he won at LIV Golf Nashville. His individual and team results from that week have been disqualified.

John Catlin will replace McDowell for Smash GC this weekend. Catlin was previously with Crushers GC, filling in for Charles Howell III who is now back in action since his injury in May.

Player Replacement:

Catlin’s transition comes just as he was about to lose his spot with Crushers GC. Luckily for him, McDowell’s suspension opened up an opportunity. Fans might think this twist adds some unexpected excitement to the tournament.

Catlin has been doing well in LIV Golf events, quickly climbing the money list with over $1 million earned in just four starts. He made $182,500 for finishing 24th in Houston and then grabbed $562,500 after a T7 finish at Nashville. His other earnings include $201,667 from Andalucia and $145,200 from UK.
