FedEx Cup vs LIV Golf Bonus Payouts

The debate over PGA Tour vs. LIV Golf isn’t ending soon.

LIV Golf boasts huge prize money, with $25m per regular event and $50m for the Team Championship.

PGA Tour countered with $20m for big events and $25m for The Players Championship.

Both tours offer more than just tournament payouts. The PGA Tour’s season ends with the FedEx Cup Playoffs, starting with the top 70 players and narrowing down to 30 at East Lake. LIV Golf has its own Individual Championship, where points decide rankings throughout the season.

Fans might think these prize amounts are mind-blowing!

Interestingly, despite LIV’s financial backing from Saudi Arabia, the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup offers more in total. Thanks to a $3bn boost from Strategic Sports Group, the FedEx Cup prize pool in 2024 will be a whopping $100m, up from $65m since 2018. This year’s winner gets an astonishing $25m bonus!

Viktor Hovland took home $18m in 2023 but next year’s champ will get even more. The runner-up will pocket $12.5m, which is more than what winners used to earn six years ago! Even finishing tenth nets you a cool $1.75m.

On the other hand, at LIV Golf’s final event in Chicago, Jon Rahm and Joaquin Niemann will compete to succeed Talor Gooch as champion. Like last year, this year’s winner will also receive an extra payment of $18m, while second and third places get $8m and $4m respectively.
