FedEx Cup Playoffs Format Points Starting Scores Explained

The PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup Playoffs crown the season’s ultimate champion.

Since 2007, 14 players have won the FedEx Cup, with Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy being multiple-time champions. Woods took home titles in 2007 and 2009, while McIlroy triumphed in 2016, 2019, and 2022.

In 2024, golfers competed in 36 events for points and prize money to dethrone Viktor Hovland.

Regular tournaments awarded winners with 500 points. Signature Events gave out 700 points, except The Players which offered 750. Winners of other events earned an extra 300 points. Everyone making the cut got both points and a paycheck.

FedEx Cup Playoffs Format:

The top-70 golfers from the regular season move on to the Playoffs: FedEx St Jude Championship (Aug 15-18), BMW Championship (Aug 22-25), and Tour Championship (Aug 29-Sep1). They start with their regular-season points and aim to stay in the top-50 after the first event .

Next up is the BMW Championship where they must be in the top-30 to advance. No cuts here; winners earn a whopping 2,000 points each.
