No golfer is safe from a bad day on the course.
On Saturday, Joel Girrbach had a rough time at the DP World Tour’s KLM Open in the Netherlands. He started and ended his back nine with a score of nine at The International.
Girrbach began his third round one-under-par, far behind leader Mikko Korhonen. He hoped to shoot low and improve his standing by day’s end. But after three bogeys on holes five, six, and nine for a front-nine 39, he needed to turn things around on the back nine.
Joel Girrbach’s Tough Day:
At the par-4 10th hole, which played +0.34 over par, Girrbach hit his drive into a fairway bunker. According to the DP World Tour website, he struggled down both sides of the fairway before sinking a putt from two feet for a quintuple-bogey nine .
He did manage to birdie the next hole (par-3 11th), but then dropped further with bogeys on holes 12 and 13. After another birdie at the par-5 15th, it seemed like he just wanted to finish quickly and forget about this round… Fans might think he’s having one of those days where nothing goes right.
Golf can be cruel sometimes. At the par-5 18th hole—another tough one that played over-par—Girrbach pulled his tee shot left again and had to hit another ball. His fourth shot found water, leading to a three-putt for another quadruple-bogey nine.
In past KLM Opens, high scores have happened before too! In 2022, Kiradech Aphibarnrat needed just a par to make it through but ended up with three balls in water and scored twelve on that final hole!
Despite this rough patch in Netherlands , Girrbach has had some good results earlier this year: top ten finishes at Bahrain Championship & Volvo China Open; currently sitting at number sixty in Race To Dubai standings .
So what do you think? Have you ever seen such highs-and-lows during golf tournaments?
