After more than a decade of loyalty to his trusty TaylorMade irons, Daniel Berger has finally made a big change to his golf bag.
The four-time PGA Tour winner just switched out his beloved 2011 TaylorMade Tour Preferred MCs for a set of new Ping Blueprint S irons at the 2025 WM Phoenix Open.
It’s a pretty dramatic shift for Berger, who’s been known as one of golf’s most committed equipment loyalists.
The 31-year-old American had such faith in his old TaylorMade irons that he once bought a backup set from a random guy who messaged him on social media.
“It’s a perfect set,” Berger told GolfWRX about that online purchase. “I don’t know if he worked at TaylorMade at some point, but the box and everything was from TaylorMade…they were brand new.”
The new Ping irons aren’t exactly fresh out of the box – reports say Berger got them last April and first put them in play during the Hawaii swing this year.
So how’s the switch working out?
While he missed the cut at both the Sony Open and Farmers Insurance Open, Berger’s game seems to be coming around. He grabbed a top-20 finish at The American Express and was in contention at the WM Phoenix Open heading into Sunday.
It’s a big deal when pro golfers change their trusted equipment. While most of us regularly upgrade our clubs to keep up with technology, these guys often stick with what works – even if it means using decade-old gear.
For Berger, a former Ryder Cup player, to finally retire his trusted TaylorMade irons shows just how impressed he must be with the performance of these new Pings.
The golf world will be watching closely to see if this equipment change helps Berger add to his four PGA Tour victories.
