Curtis Cup 2024 GB&I vs USA Line-Ups

The Curtis Cup is set to start at Sunningdale Golf Club in England on August 30.

This event happens every two years and features teams of eight amateur women golfers from the US and Great Britain & Ireland. The competition spans three days, with different match formats on each day.

In the last contest, the US won easily with a score of 15.5 to 4.5 points. But this time, Great Britain & Ireland’s captain Catriona Matthew hopes to turn things around, even though history shows it won’t be easy.

Of the 42 times this event has been held, the US has won 31 times, there have been three ties, and Great Britain & Ireland have only won eight times. Their last win was in 2016 at Dun Laoghaire Golf Club in Ireland.

Matthew’s team includes some top players like World No.1 amateur Lottie Woad. She impressed everyone by finishing T10 at the AIG Women’s Open after winning the Augusta National Women’s Amateur in April .

Fans might think this year’s match could be more competitive than before.

Other notable players include Scotland’s Hannah Darling, playing her third Curtis Cup, and Ireland’s Aine Donegan who made headlines by nearly leading after an opening round of 69 at the 2023 US Women’s Open at Pebble Beach. She eventually finished T45.

Scotland’s Lorna McClymont also stands out as she was runner-up at this year’s Women’s Amateur. Euphemie and Patience Rhodes are another interesting pair; they are sisters playing together just like Lisa and Leona Maguire did before them.

US Team Highlights:

The US team is led by Meghan Stasi and features strong players like Melanie Green, who won the 2024 Women’s Amateur and was named American Athletic Conference Player of the Year for 2023-24 before graduating from South Florida University earlier this year.

Four of their players are ranked in the top ten globally: Zoe Campos (ranked fourth), Jasmine Koo (sixth), Catherine Park (seventh), and Rachel Kuehn (tenth). Zoe Campos has also played in the 2023 US Women’s Open and represented the US twice in Palmer Cup teams.

Anna Davis grabbed attention when she won Augusta National Women’s Amateur in 2022 at just 16 years old. Another rising star is Asterisk Talley who competed in this year’s US Women’s Open at age fifteen.
