Two-time Major winner Collin Morikawa has reportedly parted ways with his longtime coach, Rick Sessinghaus. The duo had been working together for an impressive 18 years, with Sessinghaus guiding Morikawa from an aspiring amateur to a top professional golfer. This partnership culminated in Morikawa’s victories at the 2020 PGA Championship and 2021 Open. Despite their successful partnership, the two decided to go their separate ways just prior to the Ryder Cup.
After splitting with his coach, Morikawa turned to Mark Blackburn for guidance. Blackburn, who also works with Justin Rose and Max Homa, joined Morikawa’s team and immediately saw results. Morikawa’s victory at the recent Zozo Championship in Japan on the PGA Tour was a significant win and an emotional moment for the talented golfer.
In an interview after his victory, Morikawa expressed his excitement and gratitude for the win, stating, “Every win’s so different, and every experience, whether it’s winning or losing, you learn a lot, but this one just meant the world.” This success marked the end of a two-year drought for Morikawa and reinforced the various changes he had made to his game in recent times.
Looking ahead, Morikawa is focused on building momentum for the upcoming 2024 PGA Tour season. He recently signed with Los Angeles Golf Club (LAGC) for the upcoming TGL, calling it a historic moment in his career. Morikawa expressed his enthusiasm for the new partnership, stating, “Welcome home! We are going to make some history, I would love to be a part of the team. I can’t wait to rep LA. We are going to do some great things.”
The future looks bright for Morikawa as he continues to make strides in his career and looks forward to representing Los Angeles Golf Club in the upcoming season.
