Charlie Woods is set to follow his dad, Tiger, by playing in the US Junior Amateur Championship.
The 15-year-old earned his spot by shooting a one-under 71 at Eagle Trace Golf Club in Florida. This tournament is special because Tiger won it three times between 1991 and 1993.
Charlie Woods won the US Junior Am qualifier at Eagle Trace GC today with a 1 under 71. Good to see him playing against his own age group and performing well @acaseofthegolf1 @Daniel_Rapaport @NUCLRGOLF pic.twitter.com/YvJ7WXsbZT
This result means Charlie will compete in a large field of 264 players from July 20 to July 27 at Oakland Hills Country Club in Michigan. The venue has hosted the US Open six times before and will do so again twice more.
Competition Format:
The first two days are all about stroke play. Then, for the final four days, it switches to match play. Charlie aims to reach the championship match on the last day, which is a tough but exciting challenge.
Charlie’s recent success shows he’s on track for a great career . In past years, he’s already made waves by winning several junior tournaments. For example, he took home titles in both the Boys’ Major Championship categories for ages 11-13 and then again for ages 14-15.
Fans might think this news is thrilling as they watch Charlie grow into his potential.
In November of last year, he also helped his team win the Florida High School Athletic Association Class A State Championship.
If history repeats itself, Tiger will likely be there supporting or even caddying for Charlie again. But there’s a twist: The tournament starts right after The Open at Royal Troon in Scotland where Tiger is expected to play! So if Tiger makes it far there, he’ll have to rush back to support Charlie.
Recently before the US Open, they were seen together with Charlie giving putting tips to his dad!
