Charley Hull made headlines at the US Women’s Open by signing an autograph while smoking.
She admitted her smoking habit went viral on social media, and she has been seen smoking at other tournaments since then. Hull started smoking to quit vaping but promised to stop soon, though she hasn’t set a specific date.
Despite her promise, Hull will not smoke during this week’s Olympics as it’s not allowed. Speaking with Georgia Hall, she acknowledged that the ban might affect her performance because smoking helps her relax. “Yeah, I think it will. Because it relaxes me a little bit. But it is what it is,” she said.
Olympic Challenges:
Hull’s first experience at the 2020 Tokyo Games was marred by Covid-19 restrictions, so she’s eager to make the most of her second appearance in Paris. Fans might be curious how she’ll handle the pressure without her usual stress reliever.
Even though she can’t smoke in Paris, Hull remains focused on enjoying the tournament and performing well. She mentioned how beautiful the golf course looked and expressed excitement about playing there.
Another change for Hull has been reducing her social media presence. “I don’t actually go on Instagram,” she shared, explaining that she hasn’t used it for months and lets her agent manage it instead.
Hull starts her Olympic journey alongside Hannah Green from Australia and Rose Zhang from the US with a tee time of 3:44 AM EDT (8:44 AM BST) on Wednesday.
