Charley Hull Sets LPGA Record After Equipment Change

Charley Hull just had the round of her life on the LPGA Tour, shooting an incredible nine-under-par 63 without a single bogey at the Ford Championship.

The 27-year-old English star hasn’t played on tour since early March in Singapore. But she came back with a bang – and a secret weapon in her golf bag.

Hull’s been testing out TaylorMade’s brand new Qi35 driver this week. It’s a pretty big deal when a pro changes their driver – imagine an F1 driver switching cars mid-season.

“I really, really, really hit it well today,” Hull said with obvious excitement. “That put me in a lot of good positions.”

And the stats back that up. She was absolutely crushing it:
– Hit 11 out of 14 fairways
– Average drive: 287 yards
– Found every single green in regulation
– Only needed 28 putts

That’s about as close to perfect as golf gets.

Hull’s one of just a handful of pros who’ve switched to this new club. Tommy Fleetwood and Collin Morikawa are also using it, but some big names are holding out.

Even Rory McIlroy gave it a try at the Arnold Palmer Invitational but went back to his old driver for the final round. World No.1 Scottie Scheffler hasn’t made the switch either.

McIlroy explained why at The Players Championship: “Some years you vibe with a new piece of equipment a little easier. When you feel that way about a golf club, it’s very hard to change into something else.”

But for Hull, that new driver might just be the start of something special. We’ll see if she can keep this momentum going through the weekend.
