Charley Hull on Why St Andrews is a Tougher Links

For many pro golfers, aiming at a small target helps them hit more accurate shots.

Charley Hull, ranked World No.10, finds this hard to do at St Andrews’ Old Course.

She hopes to improve on her second-place finish at Walton Heath in 2023.

Hull admits she needs help from her caddie, Adam Woodward, to pick starting points in the distance.

Challenges at St Andrews:

Hull says her coach recently had her practice three-quarter swings because her swing was getting too long. “Now I understand why,” she said. “He’s introduced me to a low ball flight for links courses.”

She’s only played the Old Course a few times and finds it tough because it’s so open. “You can’t really pick out lines in the fairways,” Hull explained. She prefers tight fairways like Sahalee Country Club .

Fans might think this makes the tournament even more exciting.

This will be Hull’s fourth event since pulling out of the Aramco Series London due to an injury caused by falling out of the shower. Despite struggling initially at the Olympics with an 81 in the first round, she finished 27th overall.

Hull feels she’s back to full health now after finishing fifth at the Women’s Scottish Open last week. She mentioned having acupuncture for her shoulder and dealing with arthritis when it’s cold.

“Definitely,” Hull said about being ready for the final Major of 2024. She added that nerves affected her first round back but she’s feeling confident again.

What do you think? Will Hull conquer St Andrews?
