Bryson DeChambeau was surprised by his performance in the first round of LIV Golf Nashville.
After winning his second US Open title at Pinehurst No.2, Bryson has been busy. He appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and spent time with fans in Nashville, letting them touch his trophy.
Despite this hectic schedule, he managed to stay competitive at The Grove, scoring a four-under 67 and trailing leader Abraham Ancer by three strokes.
DeChambeau’s Energy Boost from Fans
Bryson mentioned that the crowd’s energy kept him going: “I’m a bit of a zombie right now. Luckily the crowd has given me a lot of energy.” He appreciated their support and said it pushed him forward.
He scored six birdies and two bogeys in his first round, feeling somewhat surprised to be in fourth place after such an exhausting week. “I didn’t know how well I’d do today,” he admitted but felt confident about his game overall.
Fans might think it’s amazing how Bryson keeps performing despite being so tired.
While playing, there were moments when he struggled to focus. He described losing concentration over some putts but managed to pull through by looking at the crowd for motivation.
Even though it was tough, Bryson said he wouldn’t trade these experiences for anything: “It’s the greatest time of my life.”
Ancer leads with a seven-under 64, followed by Tyrrell Hatton at six-under and John Catlin at five-under. Eugenio Chacarra, Sebastian Munoz, Sam Horsfield are tied with DeChambeau at four-under.
