Bryson DeChambeau has had a rollercoaster few weeks.
From finishing sixth at The Masters, to coming second in the PGA Championship, and then winning the US Open, he’s been on fire. But while Scottie Scheffler has secured his spot for the Paris Olympics with five wins this season, DeChambeau won’t be joining him.
In 2020, he missed out on the Olympics due to Covid. This time around, it’s because most of his world-ranking events have been Majors since joining LIV Golf two years ago.
Despite climbing back into the world’s top 10 after his US Open win at Pinehurst No.2, it wasn’t enough for an Olympic spot as the men’s field was finalized earlier this week. Fans might feel mixed about this news.
Dealing with Disappointment
After his US Open victory, DeChambeau is now focusing on LIV Golf Nashville but admitted he’s bummed about missing out on Team USA again. “It’s funny because in 2020 I was on the team,” he said. “I got Covid the week before and couldn’t go to the Olympics.”
He added that representing Team USA has always been one of his proudest moments: “Anytime you get a chance to represent your country, I’m all for it.” However, he understands why things didn’t go according to plan this time.
Even though he had limited chances to qualify for Team USA, DeChambeau remains hopeful for future opportunities like the 2028 games in Los Angeles. He said he’s done his best based on current rankings but respects where things stand now.
Reflecting on whether he’s currently the world’s best player despite rankings saying otherwise, DeChambeau recalled feeling like number one back in 2018 when he won consecutive FedExCup Playoff events: “I felt like I could win again and again.”
“Am I the best player in the world? It’s not for me to decide,” he stated simply. His goal remains playing great golf and entertaining fans without putting labels or titles on himself.
‘I’m Humbled By All Of It’
Recently showing maturity both on and off course , Bryson expressed gratitude during a press conference at LIV Golf Nashville: “Can you keep giving me these stats? They’re making me emotional.”
He reflected emotionally about how much life has changed over such a short period: “I’ve got to just say I’m humbled by all of it.”
