Brooks Koepka is shaking things up just weeks before the new LIV Golf season, parting ways with the coach who helped guide him to five Major victories.
The 34-year-old golf star sent a simple text message confirming the split with Claude Harmon III, who’s been his swing coach for most of his incredible rise in professional golf.
"Pete Cowen and Jeff Pierce will be handling everything golf-related," Koepka wrote.
It’s a pretty big change, considering Harmon helped transform Koepka from a promising talent into one of golf’s most dominant players. During their peak years together from 2017 to 2019, Koepka won four Majors and reached World No. 1 four different times.
This isn’t the first time they’ve gone their separate ways, though. The pair split back in 2020, but reunited after Koepka joined LIV Golf in 2022. That reunion proved successful – Koepka grabbed his first LIV Golf win in Jeddah and then captured his fifth Major at the 2023 PGA Championship.
Harmon took the split professionally, texting: "Proud of the things we did together when I came back at the back end of 2022."
The timing is interesting, coming just three weeks before LIV Golf’s fourth season kicks off in Riyadh. Koepka’s been really successful in Saudi Arabia, winning twice in Jeddah already.
Last year, Harmon made headlines defending Koepka’s move to LIV Golf. He called out the media pretty strongly, saying they’d unfairly dismissed Koepka while overhyping other players.
"You guys all acted like Brooks was a s***** player," Harmon told Golfweek in 2023. "You guys were ready to crown [Will Zalatoris] as if he’s the second coming of Christ and you guys are acting like Brooks Koepka was a bum."
Now Koepka heads into the new season looking to defend his success with a refreshed coaching team. The first tournament starts February 6th at Riyadh Golf Club, where he’ll try to add a third Saudi Arabian victory to his growing collection.
