Big Movers in World Golf Ranking After The Open

Xander Schauffele is now the world’s number two golfer after winning the Open.

With his victory, he pushed Rory McIlroy down to third place. Schauffele, who also won the PGA Championship in May, has been very consistent over the past few years.

The 30-year-old Californian hasn’t left the top 20 since July 2018 and has been a top-10 player for more than two years.

Scottie Scheffler’s six wins in 2024, including another Masters title, keep him at number one. But many think Schauffele might be the best player right now.

Other Players on the Rise:

Justin Rose and Billy Horschel both made big jumps in rankings after tying for second at The Open. Rose moved from 67th to 34th, while Horschel climbed from 62nd to 33rd. Fans are probably excited about these changes!

Russell Henley also had a great finish in fifth place and jumped from 20th to a career-high of 12th. South Africa’s Thriston Lawrence led going into the back nine but was overtaken by Schauffele, Rose, and Horschel.

Daniel Brown broke into the world’s top 200 with his performance at The Open. He finished tied for tenth and moved up nearly a hundred spots from 272nd to 184th.

Lawrence finished fourth alone, earning $876,000 and moving from world rank of 98th to 71st. This puts him in a good spot for getting his PGA Tour card for next year.

Brown had positives too; despite falling away on Sunday after leading early on, he showed promise by jumping significantly in rankings.

What do you think about these ranking changes?
