Steven Alderson made history by becoming the first person with autism to win a G4D event at the Andalucía Masters in Spain. After finishing his final round with a score of 70, he was overwhelmed with emotion as he reflected on what this victory meant, especially given his experiences with bullying throughout his life.
Winning by nine shots, the 44-year-old expressed immense pride in representing Australia and those back home. “I’m so proud,” he shared. “Growing up being bullied at school and even in golf clubs, this win means everything. I’m on top of the world.” He also cherished the chance to play internationally, calling it an awesome experience.
Alderson’s journey has been impressive . In 2020, he won the South Australian Mid Amateur Men’s Championship and last year claimed victory at the Webex Players Series South Australia. Fans might think he’s unstoppable now! However, triumphing in Spain stands out as his greatest achievement yet, securing him a spot in November’s G4D Tour Series Finale at DP World Tour Championship.
Preparation and Praise:
He dedicated himself to perfecting his game before the tournament. “I’ve worked hard these past weeks,” Alderson said. “We stuck to our plan even when things got tough.” His dedication paid off handsomely.
Alderson also praised both the golf course and Spanish hospitality: “It’s a fantastic course and everyone here is so friendly.” Meanwhile, Italian Davide Fasci and Frenchman Mathieu Lebon tied for second place behind him.
The upcoming G4D Tour Series Finale will be held from November 11-13 at Dubai’s Earth Course in Jumeirah Golf Estates. What do you think about Steven’s amazing journey?
