Aussie Veteran Shoots 69, Beats Age by 10 at Legends Tour Q-School

Age is just a number in golf, and Denis Brosnan just proved it in spectacular fashion. The Australian golf legend shot an incredible 69 at Murwillumbah Golf Club – a whopping 10 shots below his age of 79.

That’s right. At nearly 80 years old, Brosnan isn’t just playing golf – he’s competing at a high level.

The remarkable round came during PGA Legends Tour Qualifying School in Australia, where Brosnan showed he’s still got plenty of game left. He improved seven shots from his opening round of 76, finishing tied for sixth overall.

“It’s pretty special to shoot your age, but to beat it by 10 shots? That’s something else entirely,” said one local club professional who witnessed the round.

While he just missed out on the top five spots that would’ve given him better tournament access, Brosnan still earned playing privileges for the upcoming Legends Tour season.

What makes this even more impressive? He’s been in the golf business for nearly six decades.

As a PGA professional for 58 years, Brosnan has done it all – from club manufacturing to marketing. He’s a Life Member of the PGA of Australia and one of the most respected figures in Australian golf.

And he’s not done yet.

When Brosnan turns 80 this December, don’t expect him to slow down. He’s already planning his tournament schedule for 2025, proving that in golf, passion and skill can last a lifetime.

For weekend golfers who struggle to shoot their age plus 20, Brosnan’s achievement is a reminder of what’s possible in this amazing game – even as the candles on the birthday cake keep multiplying.
