The Solheim Cup teams are finalized, and now the players can focus on preparing for the September match at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club.
Top players like Nelly Korda and Lilia Vu will represent the US, while Charley Hull and Celine Boutier will play for Europe.
However, with only 12 spots per team, some notable names missed out on this year’s competition.
Here are 9 players who didn’t make it to the 2024 Solheim Cup:
Gemma Dryburgh
Gemma Dryburgh got her first Solheim Cup chance last year thanks to a wildcard. She had a good run before that, winning the LPGA Tour’s Toto Japan Classic in 2022 and finishing T8 at the Amundi Evian Championship. Despite these achievements, she played only twice in three days, earning half a point each time.
Her recent highlights include back-to-back T6 finishes at the Maybank Championship and Toto Japan Classic in 2023. Still, it wasn’t enough to secure an automatic spot or another wildcard from Pettersen.
Alexandra Forsterling
Alexandra Forsterling has yet to debut in the Solheim Cup. With Charley Hull and Esther Henseleit grabbing automatic spots through LET’s points list, her best shot was through world rankings. However, Madelene Sagstrom took that final spot at 39th place, while Forsterling was far behind at 75th.
Pettersen chose more experienced players like Georgia Hall and Anna Nordqvist as wildcards instead of Forsterling.
Caroline Hedwall
Caroline Hedwall’s experience earned her a wildcard last year but didn’t help much this time around. She played twice last year with a 1-1-0 record but struggled on LET since then. Her only top-10 finish came with a T3 at Tipsport Czech Ladies Open.
Fans might feel disappointed as Hedwall won’t be making her fifth appearance this year due to not qualifying automatically or getting another wildcard.
Danielle Kang
Danielle Kang has been part of every Solheim Cup since 2015 but won’t be playing this time. She finished way down in both US Solheim Cup points (21st) and world rankings (142nd). Lewis gave wildcards to Jennifer Kupcho, Sarah Schmelzel, and Lexi Thompson instead.
Cheyenne Knight
Cheyenne Knight made her first appearance last year after strong performances leading up to it. This included winning her second LPGA Tour title at Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational. She continued well during the event with a solid 2-0-1 record.
Despite starting strong this year with top-10 finishes early on , she couldn’t maintain form and ended up six places short of automatic qualification on the US points list.
Nanna Koerstz Madsen
Nanna Koerstz Madsen has just one previous Solheim Cup appearance from 2021 where she had a balanced record of 1-1-1. Her form improved towards qualifying period end with three top-20 finishes between May-June followed by T8 & T10 placements respectively at CPKC Women’s Open & AIG Women’s Open respectively but still fell short reaching only till rank #85 globally by cutoff date hence missing out despite being higher ranked than compatriot Emily Kristine Pedersen who did get selected via wildcard route chosen by Pettersen herself!
It’s interesting how fans might think about these selections given some close calls among contenders!
Ryann O’Toole
Ryann O’Toole hasn’t played since her sole appearance back in ’11 where she did well finishing unbeaten across four matches! Despite decent showings during qualifiers including runner-up finish Fir Hills Seri Pak Championship alongside Meijer LPGA Classic eighth-place result ultimately ending up seventeenth overall within USA Points List standings coupled alongside lower global ranking compared peers meant chances were slim securing any potential wildcard berth hence continuing long wait till next opportunity arises again someday perhaps?
Alexa Pano
Young talent Alexa Pano is yet another name missing out despite promising future ahead given age factor alone! Winning ISPS Handa World Invitational earlier along other notable results such runner-up Hilton Grand Vacation Tournament Champions tenth-place finish AIG Women’s Open wasn’t quite sufficient guarantee selection either automatically nor via discretionary picks made ultimately suggesting maybe couple years too soon inclusion squad currently though certainly bright prospects lie ahead undoubtedly so stay tuned closely watching progress moving forward surely worth keeping eye upon indeed!
What do you think about these choices?
