The world’s top golfers are set to compete in the Paris Olympics at Le Golf National from August 1-4.
Eight of the top ten players, including Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy, will be there. Despite challenges with world ranking points, six LIV Golf stars have also made it into the 60-player field.
Here’s a look at some of these players and how they qualified for the Games:
Joaquin Niemann – Chile
Niemann is having his best year yet, with two LIV Golf wins and appearances in two Majors. He’s now heading to the Olympics as Chile’s highest-ranked player. His success includes winning the Australian Open last December. Many thought Mito Pereira would join him, but Korn Ferry Tour star Cristobal Del Solar took that spot instead. Niemann finished T10 in the 2020 Olympics.
Fans might be excited to see how he performs this time around!
Abraham Ancer – Mexico
Ancer was ranked 20th when qualification began but has since dropped to 312th after joining LIV Golf. Still, he’s made it to his second Olympics after finishing T14 in Tokyo alongside Viktor Hovland. This year, he’s had four top-10 finishes and won his first LIV Golf event in Hong Kong .
Carlos Ortiz – Mexico
Ortiz is another Mexican golfer making waves with a recent win at LIV Golf Houston. He also climbed up rankings by winning events like V Copa Prissa on Gira De Golf Professional Mexicana and International Series Oman. Now ranked 240th, he’ll make his second Olympic appearance after finishing T42 in 2020.
Adrian Meronk – Poland
Poland doesn’t have many professional golfers, so Meronk’s spot was almost certain despite dropping ranks since joining LIV Golf earlier this year. With three top-10 finishes on the circuit but struggles outside it, he aims to improve on his T51 finish from Tokyo.
Fans might wonder if he can bounce back before Paris!
Jon Rahm – Spain
Rahm is among eight of the world’s top ten players heading to Paris for his first Olympic appearance. Though not as successful this year compared to last year’s Masters win and other victories, he still managed seven top-10 finishes early on but faced setbacks like withdrawing from US Open due to injury .
With upcoming events before Le Golf National action begins—who knows? He could still snag that gold medal!
David Puig – Spain
Puig is emerging as one of LIV Golf’s brightest talents despite being lesser-known than others mentioned here! Third place at Houston helped boost his ranking along with two Asian Tour wins securing him an Olympic debut spot
