The Solheim Cup in 2024 at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club has 12 players on each team. Every player is guaranteed to play at least once because of the Sunday singles.
Before the final day, all players had already played in at least one session. Only two players, both from Team Europe, participated in all five sessions.
Captain Suzann Pettersen trusted Charley Hull and Emily Kristine Pedersen the most. Hull started with Esther Henseleit but lost to Nelly Korda and Allison Corpuz (3&2). Pedersen and Maja Stark won against Ally Ewing and Jennifer Kupcho (2-up).
In the Friday afternoon four ball, Pedersen and Stark lost to Lauren Coughlin and Sarah Schmelzel. Meanwhile, Hull paired with Linn Grant but faced a heavy defeat by Andrea Lee and Rose Zhang (5&4).
Despite losing her first two matches, Pettersen picked Hull again for Saturday morning foursomes. This time, Hull and Henseleit won against Ewing and Kupcho (1-up). However, Pedersen lost again with Carlota Ciganda against Corpuz and Korda.
Fans might wonder why some top players didn’t get more chances to play.
Hull teamed up with Georgia Hall for Saturday afternoon’s match against Corpuz and Lilia Vu while Pedersen partnered with Ciganda against Ewing and Lexi Thompson. The US led 8-4 by then, raising questions about why Stacy Lewis didn’t include Korda in her fourth match despite her earlier wins (3&2, 6&4, 1-up).
Nelly Korda was surprisingly benched during the US’s Saturday afternoon session.
European legend Catriona Matthew said: “I’m surprised on the American side that they’re resting Nelly. I thought Nelly and Megan (Khang) would have gone out again.”
So far, Korda will play only four out of five sessions like many others including Boutier, Ciganda, Grant, Hall, Nordqvist, Stark for Europe; Corpuz, Coughlin Ewing Schmelzel Thompson Vu Zhang for USA.
